Not Vegan Friendly
Company email (July 2017)
"Regarding our 14Hands wines, the fining agents used are sourced from pork-derived gelatin..."
Company email (December 2015):
"While we do strive to keep each of our wines vegan, we are not comfortable applying the title vegan to any of them. Each of our wines comes from different vineyards around Washington state and each vintage faces its own unique winemaking practices and challenges. Because of the vintage and lot variation, a wine which is vegan in 2011 for example, may not be with the 2012 vintage.
"Given the sensitivity of dietary requirements, 14 Hands prefers to error on the side of caution and not title any of our wines vegan."
Company email (March 2014):
"14 Hands Riesling and 14 Hands Hot to Trot Red Blend are both vegan. No animal products are used in their production. All of our grapes are sourced from Washington, many from our own estate vineyards, and the wine is made and bottled at our winery facility in Paterson, WA."
Company email (January 2012):
"In regards to your question, 14 Hands wines are not vegan. While we do not make a practice of using animal products in our wines, we may, on occasion,
resort to the use of egg whites (on a very small scale) to reduce excessive or harsh tannins. We do our best to manage tannin pick up in the wines during fermentation but, every once in a while, a wine is
too big, too tannic or too drying to fit the 14 Hands profile. So, we will, from time to time, rely on the very effective, natural and traditional method of softening the wines by egg white fining.
We also do not manufacture our wines anywhere else in the world besides Washington state."
