Company email (January 2019)
"All of our year-round and seasonal beers are vegan-friendly and are canned and kegged in our facility in New Orleans.

"Occasionally, we do produce specialty on-off brews that contain lactose, which would not be considered a vegan brew. These cans would have lactose on the label though, so there would be no surprises."

Company Email (circa 2011)
"I just emailed NOLA Brewing, asking how it was going, veganizing their beer (they had mentioned they were trying to do so a couple of months ago). This is the response I got:
"Tanya,
We have been completely Vegan for over a month and a half. It was easy once we knew the issues. "

Company Email (circa 2010)
"Fining agents are used to clear beer prior to filtration. We use Gelatin from collegen of animal hooves so to speak. Its purchased from a brewery supply company and its an industry standard. Its the same gelatin that you would use to make jello shots."

Comment on Derek's article from NOLA:
"I am the President of NOLA Brewing Company and I wanted readers to know that this article is the first I have ever heard of gelatin as a fining agent (it is not actually in the beer you drink) as being an issue. I know how important it is for Vegans to maintain a healthy and animal free product to enjoy, and we are already ordering a gelatin substitute to ensure there are no animal products being used (as well as a DE substitute for our filter.)

I want to clearly communicate that if anyone has suggestions or ways to make our products better for any consumers, we would love to hear the suggestions and we will more than likely take you up on them. We want our products to be the best available, and for all New Orleanians to be proud of NOLA Beer. If this would have been communicated to us prior to the publication of this article, we could have improved our product even sooner. I will personally update our Twitter/Facebook as soon as we have Vegan friendly processes in place. Cheers!"
