Company email (March 2015):
"As for Down the Road Beer Co., we currently do not incorporate any animal products or by-products in our beer. We do not use animal agents for fining. I cannot guarantee that will be true for every beer, I know there are one or two styles our Chief Brewer has brewed that use honey. However, you're making me think that it would be worth our while to make sure that is very clear on the label. Our current products do not use honey, nor do we plan to in any of our upcoming brews.
We brew up at Ipswich ale, and their bright tanks (where the beer does it's final rest and clarifies without the use of isinglass, etc.) are actually old dairy tanks, and while I assure you there are no residual matter from its original usage, that's the only thing that might come to mind right now. On the flip side, one could say our partners at Ipswich helped slightly reduce reliance on animal products, but I'm betting the facility they bought them from were only getting bigger, newer ones. Actually, now that you've got me thinking, is there any possibility there are animal products in the glue used for the labels? On that one, I'd be stymied. I'll ask Ipswich, but dollars to donuts they would just shrug.
As such, we only have the one processing facility, so there's no concern there."
