Company email (July 2022)
"Our Summer Shandy is still brewed with Wisconsin Honey."
Company email (February 2018)
"We brew our Leinenkugel’s Shandy family of beers with honey. Most of the honey ferments out of the beer before it’s packaged. While even a small amount of honey is off-limits for many vegans, there are plenty of Leinie’s beers that don’t include honey."
Company email (January 2017)
"Our beers do not contain additives or preservatives. They are not formulated with any milk, egg, fish or shellfish (biogenic amines), tree nuts, peanuts or soybeans. Leinenkugel's Honey Weiss, Berry Weiss, Sunset Wheat and Summer Shandy all use honey in the brewing process."
Company email (December 2014):
"I have checked with the Assistant Brew Master and he has informed that there are no animal-derived ingredients used in crafting Snowdrift Vanilla Porter. Only Malt, Hops, Yeast, Water, and real Vanilla."
Company email: May 2010
"Our Honey Weiss, Berry Weiss and Summer Shandy beers all contain a hint of honey. Of the ingredients you mention, honey is the only one we include in those three beers. The rest of our lineup of beers do not contain honey or any of the other ingredients you mention. "
Company email: Jan 2010
"Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We're happy to tell you we do not use isinglass to settle the yeast in our beers. Typically, isinglass is used by folks when brewing ales. We brew mostly lagers--although we do not use it in the brewing of our special ale either. Our beers do not contain additives or preservatives. They are not formulated with any milk, egg, fish or shellfish (biogenic amines), tree nuts, peanuts or soybeans. Leinenkugel's Honey Weiss, Berry Weiss, Sunset Wheat and Summer Shandy all use honey in the brewing process. I hope this helps you and if you ever find yourself in our neck of the woods I hope you can stop and take a historic tour of the nation's 7th oldest brewery, we'll have a few cold ones waiting for you."
Company email (circa 2009)
Please know that our beers do not contain any additives or preservatives. Nor are they formulated with any milk, egg, fish or shellfish (biogenic amines), tree nuts, peanuts or soybeans. We sometimes use a little corn syrup and corn grits; both help to cut down on some of the harshness inherent in some of the malts and to make the beer smoother tasting. We do not use isinglass. Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
Second email:
Our beers do not contain any additives or preservatives. They are not formulated with any milk, egg, fish or shellfish (biogenic
amines), tree nuts, peanuts or soybeans.
Leinenkugel's Honey Weiss (yes we do use honey), Berry Weiss,
Creamy Dark, and Leinenkugel Light are formulated with the use of wheat (Weiss) malt, a source of gluten. (Gluten and non-gluten proteins are found in wheat, rye, and barley.) It is likely that beers made with wheat may contain a higher level of gluten than traditional beers.
You can find the list of ingredients for our beers on our Beers'
pages in leinie.com. We sometimes use a little corn syrup and corn grits; both help to cut down on some of the harshness inherent in some of the malts and to make the beer smoother tasting.
Know that chocolate or caramel malts listed in our ingredients do not actually contain chocolate or caramel. Their named that way due to the special roasting they go through.
Cary & James also note that there's an update in the site's FAQ: http://www.leinie.com/faq.html#19
