Company email (March 2014):
"Thank you for contacting us at CUB.

Carlton United Brewers (including Matilda Bay Brewing Company and Cascade Brewing Company) do not use any animal based processing aids in the production of its beer products.

In the past collagen fining agents have been used to clarify our beers, however we have now developed a process that eliminates this requirement.

We do not use animal products in the production of our beer. As the definition of vegan and vegetarian can differ for the individual, we prefer to provide this information for consumers to decide for themselves as to whether this qualifies as vegan or vegetarian friendly."

Company email (July 2013): [in regard to Pure Blonde]

For the packaging we use, however, commercial kaseinhaltige glues (eg, the labels on the bottles of glue). This applies to all products of Carlsberg Germany Group."

Company Email, November 2011:

"Carlton United Brewers (including Matilda Bay Brewing Company and Cascade Brewing Company) does not use any animal based processing aids in the production of its Beer products. In terms of Cider, due to apple concentrates originating from various third party supplies (local and international) we cannot guarantee that is vegan friendly."

Company Email, November 2011

"We currently have a project underway reviewing all our brewing practices which will enable us to make a definitive vegetarian (and potentially vegan) claim about our beers. Any claim regarding ingredients in our beers must be carefully researched across our own sites and those of our suppliers but we anticipate we will be able to make this claim by mid 2012. Until then, a number of our breweries do use a collagen fining agent as a process aid."

Company Email:
"We're pleased to say, we currently have a project underway to review all brewing practices to enable us to be in a position to make a definitive vegetarian (and potentially vegan) claim about our beers. Any claim about our range of beers, particularly one like this, must be carefully researched and substantiated. As such it's a large scale project across our many brewing sites and so too a huge number of suppliers but we anticipate we will be able to make this claim by late 2011. Until then, a number of our breweries do use a collagen fining agent as a process aid. This fining agent is currently being phased out and is not in use at a few of our breweries and many of our beers.

In the short term, the beers that can be identified as brewed without the collagen fining agent are:

Carlton Natural
Pure Blonde Naked
Great Northern Brewing Company
Carlton Dry Fusion Black
Carlton Dry Fusion Lemon
Carlton Dry Fusion Lime
Power’s Bitter
Power’s Gold
Reschs Real
Reschs Pilsner
Alpha Pale Ale
Dog Bolter
Bohemian Pilsner
Pepper Jack Ale

Corona is imported and we will not be able to vouch for Corona's supply chain - they may source raw ingredients from producers who use animal product during manufacturing or processing. The only CUB beer brewed overseas is Foster's, which is done on licence by Heineken in the UK, MillersCoors in the US, and SAB Miller in India. You would need to discuss vegan-friendly production methods with those licensees. Any other CUB beer you find anywhere in the world has been brewed in Australia at Abbotsford, Yatala or Cascade."
