I don't use any "macro-animal" products in making my beer. I do add a yeast nutrient which does not specify the origin of its constituents but my guess is its a yeast product. I used to use diatomaceous earth as a filter medium and that is made from the skeletons of diatoms. I now use peralite when I filter. Otherwise my beers only contain traces of "micro-animals" since I do not sterile filter, Sacchromyes species, Brettanomyces species for fermentation, and I have detected the activity of Lactobacilli on occasion. I don't know where you put the cut off point between plant and animal but biologists don't all agree about where yeasts and bacteria fall.
