Company email (September 2014):
"Most of my wines see some form of protein fining be it non fat milk or a porcine based gelatin products.I have done extensive trials on botanical based fining agents and have not liked the results or the efficacy of the materials. I'm interested in allergen free and vegan friendly materials so far no better mouse traps have hit the market. Laoffort Enologics has a number of products in the beta stage that may make vegan wines more practical in the future."
Company email:
"No would be my quick answer. I produce 28 varieties and annually bottle about 40 different offerings.I do not work with a set recipe so what I use one year may be different the next in regards to wine fining. I have worked with botanical derived gelatin like materials which unfortunately do not have the same electrical attraction that animal based gelatin and there fore not as effective in fining.I do not consider my wines vegan but some would qualify for vegan .I have friends whom are vegan and I can appreciate people who are devout would want to maintain animal by product free wine. However because it can be confusing to what are what are not vegan wines of my portfolio I would never call my wines vegan. I'm personally more concerned about the potential health issues of wines and grapes that our treated with Velcorin, copper or oregano phosphates or byproducts of rouge microorganisms that produce ethyl carbate or histamines."
